The 2024 Black by-election was triggered by the resignation of sitting Liberal MP and former Liberal Opposition Leader David Speirs following the release of a video that appeared to show him snorting a white powder.

Mr Speirs' house has been raided by police and he has been charged with two counts of supplying a controlled substance.
